Dear Friends,

Thanksgiving is not a "Christian" holiday.  It is a cultural, and specifically American holiday.  And yet it may be the most Christian of our holidays.  All we have is a gift from God.  And gratitude for this gift is an essential element of our Christian practice.  We are blessed to be alive, to breath this air, to have people in our lives and to have God's Spirit flowing through us.  In this time of gratitude, I know I am blessed to be a part of Trinity Cathedral.  I am blessed by the many parishioners who pray with and care for one another.  I'm blessed by the dedicated volunteers who are here daily and joyfully offer their time and their gifts.  I'm particularly blessed by the remarkable members of the staff whose hard work and commitment inspire me to serve Christ more faithfully.  And of course I am blessed by my family who support and love me on this crazy journey.  May you have a great and blessed Thanksgiving.

Blessings,

Brian Baker

They cover the special period of Advent preparation known as the Octave before Christmas, Dec. 17-23, with Dec. 24 being Christmas Eve and Vespers for that evening being for the Christmas Vigil (click here to read more).

A Special Advent-ure in Giving

On December 4 @ 6:30pm - Soup Supper Provided

Advent is a season for the people and friends of Trinity Cathedrl to prepare their hearts for receiving anew the Christ Child at Christmas. In all the holiday commotion we will gather these three Thursdays in a church-wide event to share in simple acts of generosity.

This week's focus is River City Community Services, two doors south of the Cathedral. We will take a tour of the facility, help clean up after their Thanksgiving rush, divide large sacks of rice and beans into smaller packages and "other duties as assigned", plan a dinner to host the residents of St. Francis' Step Program next week, wrap warm gloves, and distribute fabric to make draw-string bags for the Wind Youth program.

Families and people of ALL ages are welcome.

What to bring: A pair of adult warm gloves; Canned, non-perishable food; Fabric 30" by 30"; Disposable gloves... And a warm heart!

We still need 1/2 gallon milk cartons for construction of the houses. Give to Nancy or drop off at the office.

St. Nicholas Night Sunday December 7.

We end the evening with a spaghetti dinner. Pictures with St. Nicholas can be taken for $6.00. You will receive a nice 5x7 picture to remember the evening. The $6.00 helps pay for the evening.
