Friday, December 9 at 7:30 pm - Solstice: Dance of Light The Trinity Cathedral Music Series presents the Vocal Art Ensemble (VAE), Tracia Barbieri, conductor, on Friday, December 9th at 7:30 pm. The mixed a cappella chorus will perform intimate medieval, renaissance, and modern works, both sacred and secular, on the theme of embracing darkness and light. The chorus will be joined by Ecokinesis Dance Company, to celebrate the human relationship with the natural world through music and dance. The turning point in the concert will be Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei, a choral setting of his celebrated Adagio for Strings. The concert will also feature piano compositions by local composer Jacob Dunaway and instrumental support from members of the Dolanc String Quartet. The twenty-one experienced singers of the Vocal Art Ensemble rehearse several times weekly in the director’s Davis home. Since inception in February 2008, they’ve presented eight concert sets and led a ten-day performance tour of Ireland in September 2010. VAE has also created three CDs and one DVD of past performances, available at concerts. Performing throughout Yolo, Sacramento and Solano Counties, VAE relies on concert donations to defray costs. Suggested donation is $6-20.
