PASTORAL CARE MINISTRY

Pastoral Care and Health Ministries Team assists the Cathedral Clergy by providing pastoral care to the congregation during church through the ministry of the Transept Prayers and with outreach through Stephen Ministers, Eucharistic Visitors, Trinity Pray-ers, Ministry to Sick, Aged and Disabled, the Crisis Ministry, the Shawl Ministry and the Order of St. Luke. The Health Ministry Team provides Health and Mental Health information, education and support provided by our Parish Nurse, the Wheelchair Ministry, and our Mental Health Coordinator. For more information contact Bob Gaines, Chairperson, wbgaines@surewest.net, Canon Winnie Gaines, wgaines@trinitycathedral.org, Nadine Welty, Parish Nurse, dbwelty@aol.com.

TRANSEPT PRAYER MINISTRY

The Transept Ministers pray with people in need of healing and /or those who have personal concerns. This ministry takes place in the East Transept during communion on Sundays. The Transept Ministers also participate in the Sunday Healing Eucharists which occur about 6 times a year. There are presently 30+ Transept Ministers who find this ministry an opportunity to become channels of God's healing love to those in need. For more information contact Shelley Mydans, smydans@comcast.net.

TRINITY PRAY-ERS

The 10 current members of Trinity Pray-ers use a telephone chain for requests for immediate prayer. A prayer is said each time a request is relayed. Grateful thanks to God for answering prayers are also included. The group welcomes new members. For more information contact Jill Macdonell through the church office at (916) 446-2513. Submit a prayer request here.

EUCHARISTIC VISITORS

There are presently 18 EVs who have been trained, commissioned and licensed by Bishop Lamb to carry Communion to the sick and shut-ins of the parish. The EV are trained in pastoral skills as Stephen Ministers as well as being educated in the sacramental and practical aspects of this ministry. For more information, contact Canon Kathleen Kelly, kelly@trinitycathedral.org.

MINISTRY TO SICK, AGED AND DISABLED PERSONS

During the past year, we have had an average of 25 members of our parish family who are unable to get to church for services or other activities. We consider it our mission to take church to these individuals and do our best to keep them connected to the Cathedral family. A special component of this ministry is the work of the Eucharistic Visitors and Ministry to Household Members. Every week, the scripture reading and the sermon from the prior Sunday are mailed to those members of our parish family who cannot get to church or whose hearing is too deficient to hear the sermon. These same people also are given copies of the "Forward Day by Day" pamphlet with large print copies to the vision impaired. If you are aware of any of our Cathedral family who have become "unwillingly absent" please contact, Jim Parsons, jparsons67@comcast.net.

CRISIS MINISTRY

The Crisis Ministry provides short term services to help parishioners through times of crisis. Caring, trained volunteers are provided in many different areas of need. Some of the crisis ministry services are: mental health crisis intervention, meal preparation, respite care, pet care and transportation. This ministry works closely with the Stephen Ministry program which provides long term services. Contact persons: Richard Russell, richrus3@aol.net, Dr.Libby Kovacs, Mental Health, libby@accessbee.com; Canon Kathleen Kelly, kelly@trinitycathedral.org.

ORDER OF SAINT LUKE

The Order of St. Luke is a Christian fellowship interested in sharing the experience of Jesus' healing ministry. Members of the fellowship feel that God's healing powers operate and grow within the church. Members and parishioners learn new ways to pray and heal through educational seminars and classes.
