Guide for Newcomers

Welcome

We encourage you to come to any service during the week and experience our diverse community joining together in a manner of worship that connects us to the earliest Christians. We believe that we have something to learn from everyone, and we hope you will add your questions, your experiences, and your wisdom to our growth together. We also believe that humankind is designed for mutual support, and that we thrive when connected in worship, learning and service. You will find opportunities for all of these here at Trinity Cathedral. Check the "About Trinity" tab for basic information about service times and nursery care.

Directions & Parking

We are located just east of the State Capitol in the diverse Midtown neighborhood. We are at 2620 Capitol Avenue, between 26th and 27th streets. This exit will feed you onto 30th Street. Go 1 block and turn left on Capitol Avenue. Go west on Capitol and turn left on 27th Street. The parking garage is on the corner of 27th and N streets. Validated parking is available in the garage. Please see an usher at the service.

If you are coming from the Northeast (Roseville), take Business 80 and exit at J Street. This exit will feed you onto 29th Street. Stay on 29th and turn right on Capitol Avenue. Go west on Capitol and turn left on 27th Street. The parking garage is on the corner of 27th and N streets. Validated parking is available in the garage. Please see an usher at the service.

There is also ample parking on the streets surrounding the Cathedral on weekends.

Parking for people with disabilities is provided on Sundays. Enter on Trinity Cathedral Lane and park behind the Great Hall.

How We Worship

As part of the Episcopal Church in the US, we are connected to the Anglican Communion. These are churches worldwide that trace their origins to the Church of England. This gives us some common traits. When the Church of England was formed, its founders worked hard to establish a framework that both Protestants and Catholics could embrace. The framework they came up with encourages individual thought and inquiry, and binds us together though beautiful, traditional worship. The order of our worship service follows how Christians have worshipped for more than 1700 years. By saying ancient "creeds" (statements of faith) together, we show that we want to count ourselves as successors to those early Christians. We draw strength from knowing that we are in the shadow of such a "cloud of witnesses," as the Bible calls them. Read more background about our tradition.

Getting Acquainted

Throughout the year, a Newcomers' Class consisting of 7 sessions is offered. Even if you have attended another Episcopal Church in the past, the Newcomers' Class will give you a chance to meet people at Trinity and become better connected. We encourage everyone who is newly attending to join in a Newcomers' Class. You may contact Canon Kelly (kelly@trinitycathedral.org), or (916) 930-8023, for information about the current schedule.
